Hi all,After a 7 year hiatus I have recently rediscovered my passion for all things music and Bass In those seven years though things haven't half moved on especcially in the recording world. To cut a long story short I have a Laptop with Reaper, linked with a zoom R24. My problem lies with recording bass. As I live in a small flat I have decided that my best option is to use a dedicated Bass VST but there seems to be a quite staggering choice, and that is just on the commercial side let alone the free side. What is important to me is getting the right product. I want something that sounds good, can offer a wide range of sounds but is not daunting, ideally one that has a small-ish CPU footprint, works with windows 8 and will last me a good few years My preference would be for some commercial software. If any one has recommendations and is happy to relate thier experiance with pros and cons they have discovered along the way, then I would love to hear. Thanks for the Feedback:So far I have triedAmplitube 3Amplitube Ampegg SVTMark Studio 2Ignite Amps SHB 1TSE BODRecabinet 3I tried to use Softube but it Needs an ilok. Studio Devil Bass Pro for some reason I can't create a user account so can't download this demo yet.So far using Ampeg SVT as a preamp (hosted in Amplitube 3 for 64 bit) with Recabinet 3 for imulses seems to be the best - and by some distance.

The Sound has weight and punch and on the Songs I tried it with it just sat in the mix nicely. After that simply using Recabinet 3 on the DI is the 2nd best Option.Mark Studio was particualrly poor - AB comparison bewtween my di Signal and the effected Signal revealed next to no Change. Will Keep searching so any other tips or recommendations appreciated! Thanks for the custom shop tip - I downloaded amplitube 3 and tried a couple of the demos from the custom shop bass amp section. I really liked the orange bass amp head, also tried the GK and Green? ( the TE copy). There is definately a step up in class from the Ampeg standalone - I think it's about time IK reworked this product. However I'm still getting the best results using 3rd Party IR plugins.Last night I downloaded the GR5 demo, although it only has one Bass amp, it's interesting to me because I have an old komplete 2, so can get an upgrade to komplete 9 for a very good price and get a bunch of other useful stuff. GR5 also has Redwierz IRs.Now having poked around a little with GR5 I think I prefer amplitube as an all in one package, but tomorrow I will use Amplitube as the head and GR5 as the cab.

That also gives an extraordinary array of effects@ IK Obi - does IK have any plans to release another, more up to date bass package? I know Orange and Fender paks had some bass options as does the custom shop, but it would be nice to have another dedicated productStudio Devil finally activated my account, so looking forward to trying bass amp pro tooLove weekends like this!
