I am trying to enable VNC (Screen Sharing) on my Mac running OS X. The analogous command for using user/password of existing users would be.on -configure -allowAccessFor -allUsers -configure -restart -agent -privs -all.    The VNC connection allows for copying and pasting ASCII text between your local machine and your gnome desktop. You can use Ctrl+Insert to copy the text to the clipboard and Shift+Insert to paste it.

   The VNC server creates a log file every time you start it. Eventually these files may take a lot of space. You can delete old log files by running the rm *.log command.
8. How secure is VNC connection?
   SSH Tunneling required for our VNC connections strongly encrypts all traffic between your local machine and the SCC server. SSH also compresses the encrypted data making the connection even faster which is especially useful while running VNC over slow links. It is also very important that you do not use your Kerberos and/or local SCF password as your VNC password.
9. I do not see my application (such as MATLAB, ENVI, RStudio, etc…) listed in the Applications menu. How do I start it?
   All programs on the SCC should be started from the terminal window within your Gnome desktop session (launched by selecting Application->System Tools->Terminal). If you plan to run the program for more than 15 minutes of CPU time, start an interactive job (qrsh) in your terminal window and then start your program on the compute node you are assigned to.

You may never need this, but if you do, it is the best trick ever.I administer my XSERVER remotely via the built in Apple VNC. However, the VNC service occasionally crashes, and locks my session.

It also refuses any more VNC logins. This is particularly frustrating when I am off site! Apple has analyzed this and has no explanation or fix.BUT!!One talented and determined technician came up with this magic workaround. If SSH access is enabled on the server, you can connect to the server via an SSH client (PUTTY is great for Windows clients), and run this command:sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -restart -agentYou must log in with admin rights, and must enter the admin password again to run the command. It can take a minute to run. After it finishes, VOILA! You can login again via VNC.Believe me, this is a Godsend if you need it!
